Intro to Photography Classes for Kids
Beginner Photography for Ages 9 to 14 years old
Summer Photography Class: August 18-21, 2025
Time: 10-11:30
$180
This summer, Kelly Mintz of SEE Shore Photography is offering a group beginner photography classes for kids ages 9-14!
In these hands-on classes, Kelly will teach students how to get the most out of their individual camera, smartphone, or even a borrowed camera (which Kelly can provide if needed). Whether they love photographing nature, people, animals, sports, or a little bit of everything, Kelly will guide them in making their photos stand out by using the right settings and focusing on strong composition.
Kelly, who holds a Masters in Education, believes that learning by doing is the best way to learn. After each lesson, students will head out on field trips to practice their skills. Just across the street, they can photograph a seal in the water or a stunning landscape. A short walk away is a flea market filled with unique and eclectic subjects to capture, or they can explore the downtown area of Newburyport to shoot in an urban setting.
For information on what supplies are needed, or if you need a camera recommendation, be sure to check out the "Supplies Needed" page. (If you don’t have a camera, you can borrow a Canon or Nikon cameras available in class.)

Photo II - Advanced Digital Photography for grades 4-8
No classes offered right now, consider a private lesson
Photo II is a great class for students, ages 9-14 to further learn the art of photography. After students have learned the foundations of photography in my beginner photo class, they can continue to further learn fun and useful photography topics. Students will learn how to photograph people, both formal and candid style, landscapes/nature, night (time lapse photography) and abstract photography.
These are just some of the topics that may be included, but each class is individually designed to meet student's needs & interests.
The most fun part of this photography class is that students will have the opportunity to go out on field trips with the instructor, Kelly Mintz to practice photographing. Field trips are the best way for students to learn by doing. These field trips are scheduled everyday to interesting scenic places around Newburyport that the students can walk to and/or parents drop off and pick up at a local spot.
Class size is small and limited to 7 students, which allows for individual attention. Kelly is a professional photographer and holds a Masters in Education and over fifteen years experience teaching photography to children and adults.
(Kelly is currently CPR + FIRST AID CERTIFIED)
