P h o t o 1 is a 4-week long beginner photography class to teach adults, about their cameras and taking better photographs. This class is for adults with NO prior experience using their camera in any other settings other than the Automatic modes.
Kelly Mintz teaches you, in a simple to understand manner, how to use your various camera {Aperture and Shutter} modes. The more you're able to use these non-automatic modes, the more you're able to control the outcome - resulting in better photographs.
You will also learn the importance of using good outdoor lighting and how to use your flash properly. Tips will also be taught on taking better photographs of people and landscapes etc. which are extremely useful for any beginner photographer.
Kelly guides you in a simple to understand teaching method and helps students learn by showing lots of inspiring photo examples by world renowned photographers, giving informative handouts and most importantly, students will practice photographing on fun field trips.
Field trips are a great way for students to learn alongside Kelly, the instructor. This is something most other photography classes don't offer, but learning by doing is the best way to learn photography.
Students will also have a opportunity present their homework and field trip photos to the class for constructive and positive feedback.
Field Trips
The class chooses where to go on these field trips. Students have been to Spencer Peirce Little Farm, Topsfield Fair, Maudsley State Park, Salisbury Beach reservation, the old snuff mill in Byfield, Newburyport's Oldies Flea Market, Castle Hill in Ipswich, sunflowers at Colby Farm, Plum Island Reservation, Nunan’s Florist, the Newburyport Farmer’s Market, and even an old jail in Newburyport!
Students will also have an opportunity to receive constructive feedback after they present their digital images to the class.
