🌕 Lighthouse Moonlight Photography Workshop on July 26 & 28, 2026
Kelly Mintz of SEE Shore Photography will offer a two-part photography experience designed to help you plan, prepare, and capture the rising moon over Whale Back Lighthouse. $185
Part 1: Sunday, July 26, 2026 at, SEE Shore Photography studio in Newburyport, MA
TIME: 9:30-12
You’ll learn how to successfully plan and execute moonrise and lighthouse photography:
Part 2: Tuesday, July 28, 2026 | Great Island Common, 301 Wentworth Road New Castle, NH
TIME: 7:30 PM - 8:30 Field trip to practice photographing the moonrise and Whale Back Lighthouse
(RAIN DATE: WEDNESDAY, JULY 29)
7:30 PM -We’ll meet along the shoreline at Great Island Common, New Castle, NH and photograph Whale Back Lighthouse through golden hour, blue hour, and into moonrise. Location has open ocean views and direct sight lines toward Lighthouse as the moon rises over the horizon.
🌅 Sunset: approximately 8:12 PM
🌕 Moonrise: approximately 7:58 PM
As the Buck Moon rises over the Atlantic, you’ll practice:
🌕 Why This Workshop is SPECIAL? The July Buck Moon rises just after sunset, creating a rare almost full moon over the ocean right near Whale Back lighthouse.

Part 1: Sunday, July 26, 2026 at, SEE Shore Photography studio in Newburyport, MA
TIME: 9:30-12
You’ll learn how to successfully plan and execute moonrise and lighthouse photography:
- How to predict moonrise timing and direction
- Using apps and tools for alignment and planning
- Choosing the right lens
- Composition strategies for lighthouse + moon images
- Camera and exposure techniques from sunset through moonrise and blue hour
Part 2: Tuesday, July 28, 2026 | Great Island Common, 301 Wentworth Road New Castle, NH
TIME: 7:30 PM - 8:30 Field trip to practice photographing the moonrise and Whale Back Lighthouse
(RAIN DATE: WEDNESDAY, JULY 29)

- Telephoto composition in changing light
- Tracking and timing the rising moon
- Adjusting exposure in real time
- Creating layered lighthouse + moon imagery

📷 Recommended Workshop Supplies
- DSLR or mirrorless camera
- Telephoto lens (200–400mm ideal or a 100-200mm) (If you don't own one, consider renting one)
- Tripod and if you don't have one, consider renting one or contact Kelly on which tripod to buy
- Remote shutter or timer or if you don't own one, your self-timer will be fine to use
- Snack, water and extra layers for windy conditions
- Notebook for taking notes on the first part of the workshop
- No PARKING FEES at Tannery Parking lot, MA or Great Island Common, NH after 6 PM
